- Take care of you.
Take care of you.
Nourishing yourself so you can be a better marketer, boss, and leader at work and at home.
Monday Monday Monday!
I’m feeling the vibe. A little eager for what’s next. Making 🎁 shopping lists. Struggling with the time change.
Feeling the vibe so much that my boys and I baked cookies this yesterday.
(19 days to Black Friday)
Alrighty, marketers... Which one of these are you right now?
A) Executing campaigns you've worked on for months while crossing your fingers.
B) Got the sale prices, product descriptions, and general idea of what's going on. But still making it up as you go along.
C) Getting unclear direction from clients and pushing back for more concrete information. Dude, you're not the only ones prepping for the big day?!
D) The boss is barking orders, and I'm making it happen.
Hang in there. Remember why you are here and it's your time to shine.
But let’s face it, you spend hours in front of the computer, zoned in at the work at hand and finishing those projects. You’re crushing it at your job, be proud of that. But part of this all-mighty work-life balance is nourishment. Taking care of you.
Part of being a marketer is nourishing all your little projects to hit goals. Campaign management is like taking care of little mini-businesses all day, making sure they have the targeting, budget, and bidding they need so they can grow up too. Nourishing them and your job.
What is bringing you nourishment?
You need to nourish YOU, too. Mind, body, and soul. But are you taking any time to do that? That means you listen to your body’s needs with rest, food, community, and play. I know that some days it’s easier to just keep going and check more to-dos off the list. However, if you keep going like that, you’re headed straight to burnout.
Try out this exercise: Take three deep breaths.Write down the first thing that comes to you: What I need to nourish the whole me is ___.Imagine that you can do that one thing.
Feel free to hit reply and let me know what it is. Let me know you are stuck. I can help you make a plan to make it happen.
Here are six ways I nourish me:
Set a time I will not go back to work each night. When my hours were flexible, I kept my work between 9-6 and shut it down after that. I also let my manager and team know.
Take hot baths. For me, this is time to pamper me, get out some of the tenseness in my shoulders, and zone out.
Choose a snack that fills and nourishes my body. (That means saying no to Halloween candy)
Go to bed by 10 p.m. and plan at least 7 hours of sleep each night.
Chat with my best friend on the phone.
Reflect on the impact my work has had on my career.
Make your Nourish Me list too. And when times are a little depleting, pick one (or 5) that will get you back to you.
You do this and you'll find that it's easier to show up fully as you to work, at home, and everywhere in your life.
The world needs you to show up as the best you.
🎧 What I’m listening to
Bad Vibes Only by Nora McInerny. 17% of the way in and I'm hooked. Nora's storytelling abilities are something to envy. I can listen for about 10 minutes, get inspired, do some journalling, and jump right back in.
Her stories resonated with me as a midwest mom, overworked and overly tired. Bonus points for the author reading the audiobook.
Also, if you don't yet, get the Libby app. You connect your library card and can borrow just about anything. Simple, free, growth building.
📕 What I’m reading
If you're deep into social media, scan this 280-page document. For the rest of you, here are some of my takeaways:
92.7% of internet users watch some kind of video each week. Of that, 29.2% watch how-to videos and 27% product review videos. Have you published any videos?
The average daily time spent using social media is 2 hours and 28 minutes.
Web traffic referrals from social from Instagram have jumped up to 7.51% (an 88% increase). Since they've allowed more links in stories, this is a huge jump. So if you're on IG, add your links to your stories.
YouTube is seeing a jump in audience size for advertising - a 9.8% increase in ad reach. Advertising on YouTube may be the sleeping giant for some businesses, and it might be easier than you think.
💍 What I'm watching
Love is Blind Season 3 has me hanging on to my seat. My prediction: none of them get married.
I hope your week is filled with challenges you can overcome and grow from! And moments that make you smile.
